Filed under: Activities in the Highlands,Apr May Jun — Sally at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, February 14, 2006

The Haliburton Highlands Cycling Coalition is planning a fun and exciting event to promote bicycling in the highlands. “Shifting Gears – Haliburton’s Celebration of Cycling” will be a day-long event on Saturday, May 27, in Head Lake Park, Haliburton.

The goal of this first-ever festival is to promote cycling in Haliburton as a physical activity that is healthy, accessible and safe for people of all ages. We hope that through participating in “Shifting Gears”, more people will start cycling, will increase their cycling skills and will be more aware of local cycling opportunities.

The “Shifting Gears” program will include cycling activities for all ages and skill levels of cyclists. Some examples include mountain bike skills for children, introductory cycling for adults, bike skills rodeo for children, as well as a variety of guided rides on local trails and roads.

About Stephen Fearing:
For almost 17 years now, Stephen Fearing has been penning some of the most literate, stirring and emotionally charged “folk” music on this planet. Couple this with stunning guitar work, and a smooth intimate voice, and you have the elements of the unique performer that is Stephen Fearing.
After a year of touring throughout Canada and the United States singer/songwriter and guitarist Stephen Fearing is back with a new studio album. “That’s How I Walk” is the sixth solo album for this four time JUNO nominee, and follow up to the critically lauded “So Many Miles.”
Fearing’s new work blends a raw, streetwise edge with evocative soul-searching imagery to produce music of quiet passion and depth. Ranging in subject from love’s loss to poverty, from faith to sexuality, Fearing’s work taps the full spectrum of human experience.
