Wolf HowlDates: July 6, 2006 to August 31, 2006

Every Thursday night this summer experience the wonders of the howling wolf.
This is a unique opportunity that will allow you to hear there song and learn about their history. The evening starts with a presentation about wolves, dispelling some of the many myths surrounding the elusive creatures. The program then ends with a wolf howl.

Haliburton Forest Staff will lead you through the on-site, dark sky observatory to view and learn about the night sky. The outdoor program is help on clear nights. Just last week one of out guests took this picture of the phantom Snapping Turtle that people see in the Drag River. Guests see him and then by the time they try to point out where is he is gone.
Well, the more than 100 year old turtle, has now been named “Sammy” by guests Bill and Inge as they were the first to capture this illusive creature on digital.
Rest asured folks, Sammy does not live in the area where we swim.

On our trip to the Minden area to explore the Carden Alvar…we were able to spot the following species of birds in “our own” backyard here at Sunny Rock: Chickadee, Cedar waxwing, Kingfisher, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Loon, Great Blue Heron, Mallard family, American Goldfinch. There are possibly many more that we missed.
