Awoke early, made coffee & went out on the deck to watch Harriot the Heron fish. Out of the corner of my eye a black furry shape distracted me. Looked down and there’s a bear below the cabin at the edge of the reeds. He(She) was a teenager by size, looked around for a few minutes and turned & disappeared. I don’t think he saw me, just didn’t want to get paws muddy. Amazing! Oh, the Heron caught a fish, put his head up and swallowed his(her) breakfast in one gulp. Going for mine now. What a great place Sunny Rock is!

Minden Car Racing on Ice: February 2007

Filed under: Activities in the Highlands,Jan Feb Mar — Sally at 2:36 pm on Monday, September 11, 2006

Minden Car Racing on IceFebruary 2007 The Canadian Automobile Sport Club for the Ontario Region presents Ice Racing every Saturday and Sunday, last races of the season is Feb 25 & 26. A winter fun family day finishes the race season off with great fun. Ice Racing started in Ontario more than forty years ago and it’s an inexpensive, fun part of CASC-OR for competitors and spectators alike. Originally all events were held on forzen lakes and rivers and some still are but in the late seventies the Central Ontario series moved to more permanent facilities at the fairgrounds in Minden. Here a track is laid out in an ‘kidney’ shape, then flooded repeatedly to build up ice between the snow banks that define the course. For more information contact: Haliburton County Info Centre Tel: 800-461-7677 or Email: tourism@county.haliburton.on.ca

Need a place to stay when you come to participate or watch the Ice Racing stay at The Sunny Rock Bed & Breakfast.
