Haliburton Dogsled Derby: Jan 27&28, 2007
If you have never watched a dog sled race it is definitely a sight to behold and hear! With the dogs lunging, howling and barking to get the race started, flying out of the starting gate at speeds reaching 30km/hr and racing for the richest purse in Ontario, there is lots of action going on. You will see all this and more at the Haliburton Highlands Dogsled Derby.
This year the races will take place at the Delta Pinestone Resort located 15 minutes drive from the Sunny Rock B&B. Races will be going on all day Saturday and Sunday with teams leaving the starting gate at 2 minute intervals.. Organizers anticipate that there will be 70 teams competing this year from all over Ontario, Quebec and the Northern United States.
This is a must do event that everyone is encouraged to attend. The races are free for the spectators. Come prepared to dress warmly and do not forget your camera…the dogs are all very photogenic.
Tanya and Hank of Winterdance DogSledding are the organizers for the event. If you wish to know more about the Derby or dogsledding in the Haliburton Highlands please check out the Winterdance website .
Call Sunny Rock B&B for a two night reservation for that weekend and talk to us about our winter deals. Hope to see you soon. Sally
