This is day one of our honeymoon! We got married at the Domain of Killien in Haliburton with 43 of our closest family and friends. This B & B is an absolute dream! Sally has been wonderful to us, oh and Ace too! Our room and view is perfect and we will definitely visit again.

only been here 2 hours and I’m more relaxed than after a whole weekend

We called at the last minute but luckily there was a room available. Knowing that we would only be able to stay one night and have to leave early in the morning we asked Sally if we could go swimming as soon as we got here. Racing sundown we quickly got on our suits and headed down to the water and boy was it worth it!! A mere 10 degrees outside, the water was warm and I could have stayed in there all night. We warmed up by the fire. Boy it was nice. I’ve only been here 2 hours and I’m more relaxed than after a whole weekend. Great spot, wonderfully warm and welcome. Thanks for letting us take a peek and share your little piece of heaven, even if ever so briefly.

Hugging the Stanley Cup on the August Civic Long Weekend 2009

Filed under: General Interest Odd Stuff — Sally at 2:59 pm on Thursday, August 20, 2009

For all hockey fanatics that dream of hugging and kissing the ever so sacred Stanley Cup Jan and Sunny Rock Jan and Sally beat you to it. We were visiting home with a house full of family in Dunany Lachute Quebec and Lord Stanley and its entourage came for a visit to the local Dunany Golf and Country Club. There was an exciting buzz happening on the Sunday at noon.

Jan and I were among the many that were able to wait our turn and get our picture taken with the “Lord”. Jan is really the Hockey buff and was so excited to have this claim to fame. Frankly I simply enjoy watching the final game and the celebration of those who win the Stanley cup. I am usually watching a movie while others scream obscenities at the puck in the other room.

But I gotta tell you standing beside, hugging and even kissing this ICON was really exciting even for me.

The “Falling Water” of the North! We’ve enjoyed our stay so much. Your care for all guests is wonderful. The food, the well appointed rooms, and the total ambiance of Sunny Rock make it a gem. It was the right place for Lois & Ross’s 50th anniversary. Thanks for being such fine hosts Sally & Jan.

stay at Sunny Rock while attending the Arts School.

This week has certainly been rejuvenating as I had the opportunity to stay at Sunny Rock while attending the Arts School. The experience of staying her has heightened my sense of need for balance and taking the time to appreciate the wonders around us.
This week was eventful thanks to Sally’s hospitality and surroundings re: swimming above the dam, at the rapids and beach, the sing-a-long at the player piano, capturing the bat, scaring away the bear, observing the meteor shower, listening to the rapids and observing the reflections in the water.
Sunny Rock is the best B & B experience I have had. Food was fantastic, treats plentiful, happy hour and conversations passed the time away quickly. An experience I look forward to sharing with friends and will definitely return with my husband. A piece of paradise in a beautiful part of Canada.
I look forward to a week next summer at the Arts School to further expand my “right brain/creativity”.

We had a wonderful weekend at Sunny Rock. This is my kind of roughing it. I have been looking after a dear friend who has cancer and haven’t been away overnight since last October. What a lovely retreat I’ve had. Thank you all for making us feel so at home in your beautiful B and B. Here’s to a full house and many more new memories. Thank you!!

showed us how to swim in a stiff current, relax (sort of) in a natural whirlpool

My granddaughter Abbey and I have had a wonderful time here at Sunny Rock and exploring Haliburton. The Geocache experience started us off on a program of observation, adventure and learning. Our expert teacher, Sally, gave us tips on things to see and do and showed us how to swim in a stiff current, relax (sort of) in a natural whirlpool, operate a player piano and identify the constellations in the incredible night sky. Our primary destination, Haliburton Forest, did not disappoint. The Wolf Centre was enjoyable & informative and the “Walk in the Clouds” was challenging and exhilarating. The food and hospitality here are second to none. Thanks Sally.
