Sunny Rock has an immense history + so many connections to the world – I felt at home, at ease, when we realized how connected we all are. Or first experience at a B + B has been phenomenal + thanks to Sally + All. A great experience that we will repeat and not soon forget.

Mose Scarlett in Concert

Filed under: Activities in the Highlands,Oct Nov Dec — Sally at 10:58 am on Thursday, September 17, 2009

Mose Scarlett in Concert

Friday. October 30
Mose Scarlett with openers Albert Saxby and Barry Haggerty. A Mose Scarlett performance is much more than mere instrumental and vocal display. Mose’s sets, at times, seem like finely executed pieces of theatre (albeit, sometimes, the theatre of the absurd). His patter includes entertaining and topical commentary on the foibles of the world (who else would think of introducing the ‘Sheik of Araby’ with a dissertation on oil prices?). In Mose’s vicinity the unexpected is never far off – no one knows what is going to happen next (particularly his sidemen). He is deeply rooted in musical history – to give but one example, he performs ‘Sweet Georgia Brown’ with the rarely-heard verse and extra lyrics (though without a basketball). A keen observer of the contemporary scene, he is a trenchant social critic and a droll raconteur with many stories to tell.
Tickets $20/$15 for students/members. Tickets available at York St. Internet Cafe and Haliburton Highlands Copy Centre.

Stayed in Many Places…This is the Best!

Jan, Sally & Ace
I travel a lot with my work and have stayed in many places. Sunny Rock is the best. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this little table I’m sitting at right now – in my bedroom [Walter Windsong River View Suite] – me & my coffee and the view of the river. This little place has made it easy for me to slow down & breathe & look around. You’ve built a place of peace and I’m grateful having it! I will get back here. Of course the best part is the company. Many thanks and look forward to the next wonderful meal here.

Editorial Note: Katherine is an incredible Canadian musical artist who recently has a new CD in the market called “Landed”. Everyone should own a copy. I [Sally] first heard Katherine at the Haliburton Highlands Winter Folk Camp that was held at Camp Wanakita last March 2009. Katherine recently attended a program called “Haliburton Rocks” run by the company called Yours Outdoors.
