Fishing in the Haliburton Highlands: Bass and Trout
The fourth Saturday in June is a welcome day to many anglers in the Haliburton Highlands Ontario and across the province.

Pound for pound, bass (both largemouth and smallmouth) are arguably the hardest fighting fish in our waters. Better still, they are aggressive, prolific and fairly easy to pattern on most days. They can be caught right off the dock or from a boat. And they will take a swipe at flies, live bait, topwater offerings, crank bait, jigs and anything in between. This means that even the most casual angler probably has something in the tackle box that will interest the bass.

Lake trout another option in our Haliburton Highlands lakes are another great catch. The quality of our bass and trout fishing may be out Haliburton Highlands best kept secret. I fact, Haliburton County has some of the finest trout fishing in Central Ontario. You do not have to drive far to find good fishing for brook, rainbow, lake trout and splake. There are even pockets of brown trout within the Highland Lake Country.

Our deep, coldwater lakes and a stocking program that favours trout are 2 reasons why, onany given day from Jan 1st to September 30th, an angler can go out and have a reasonable chance of catching trout of some kind. The Highlands also have several lakes that are open year round.

Consider the ultimate fishing experience just 2.5 hours North of Toronto in the Haliburton Highlands. Sometime you make have the fishing itch and need to get to the North and go fishing however your partner may not be so willing….The Sunny Rock Bed and Breakfast has the solution. A B&B with upscale tastes and decor with thousands of feet of decking overlooking a river full of Bass, Lake Trout and Brown Trout, and Pickerel. Picture this leaving your partner in bed while you get up for your dawn fishing and in less than 3 minutes you can be back for the Sunny Rock full breakfast. Or …your non fishing partner can be sipping on an iced summer beverage, reading a great book occasionally glancing over the book to see you fishing the hours away. How good is that?
